4.2.7 T27 Modes

A T27 session can operate in a variety of modes:

  • Forms mode: use this mode to type text into unprotected fields on a form. When the session is in forms mode, the word FORM appears in the status line.

  • Nonforms mode: use this mode to type text anywhere on the session window. When the session is in nonforms mode, the word NORM appears in the status line.

  • Local mode: use this mode to perform local operations, such as typing keystrokes. When the session is in local mode, the word LOC appears in the status line.

  • Receive mode: use this mode to receive data from the host. If the session is in any mode except local mode, it will automatically go into receive mode when the PC receives data from the host. When the session is in receive mode, the word RCV appears in the status line.

  • Control mode: use this mode to send control code sequences to the host. When the session is in control mode, the word CTRL appears in the status line.

  • Insert-in-line mode: use this mode to insert characters into a line. Any characters at the cursor position move to the right, and any characters that move beyond the end of the line are lost. When the session is in insert-in-line mode, the word INS/LN appears in the status line.

  • Insert-in-page mode: use this mode to insert characters into a page. Any characters at the cursor position move to the right, and any characters that move beyond the end of the line move to the next line. Any characters that move beyond the last position on the page are lost. When the session is in insert-in-page mode, the word INS/PG appears in the status line.

  • Overwrite mode: use this mode to overwrite existing characters at the cursor location.

  • Search mode: use this mode to search for a specific character on the page. If the search character is not found, the cursor moves home. When the session is in search mode, the word SEARCH appears in the status line.

  • Enquire mode: the session automatically enters this mode when the host is trying to send data and is unable to (for example, when the session is in local mode). You must put the session in receive mode to receive the data. When the session is in enquire mode, the word ENQ flashes in the status line.

  • Transmit mode: the session automatically enters this mode when you transmit data. When the session is in transmit mode, the word XMIT appears in the status line.

Both you and the host can put the session in these various modes. The default mode for your session varies, depending on which host application you are using.
