Keyboard Tab

Using this tab, you can configure how certain keystrokes will operate.

Options

Description

Clear Key Interpretation

Click which data to clear when you clear data from the screen.

Cursor At End Of Display

Click the action that you want the cursor to take when it reaches the last column of the last line on the screen and you type a character:

Specify Key

Click the format to use to report the cursor position to the host when you use the Specify keystroke (ASCII or Hex).

Return Moves Cursor To

Click the position that you want the cursor to move to when you press ENTER. (Enter is the PC keyboard equivalent to RETURN on a T27 terminal.)

Insert Key Inserts Space

Select this option to insert a space at the cursor location when you press Insert (in addition to toggling between insert-in-line and overwrite mode).

If you clear this option, pressing Insert will toggle between insert-in-line and overwrite mode, but will not insert a space at the cursor location.

NOTE:Even if you select this option, spaces are not inserted in right-justified fields.

Lower Case Enable

Select this option to enable lowercase characters.

If you clear this option, you will be able to type only uppercase characters. (Some V Series hosts require all uppercase characters.)

Display Return Key Symbol

Select this option to display a carriage return symbol when you press ENTER. (This does not affect CRs sent by the host.)

If you clear this option, no carriage return symbol appears.

Display Tab Key Symbol

Select this option to display a tab symbol when you press TAB.If you clear this option, no tab symbol appears.

Specify Key Sends Page

Select this option to send the host the page number (along with the column and line information that is normally sent) when you use the Specify keystroke.If you clear this option, only the column and line information are sent.The option you should select varies, depending on which host application you're using.

Enable Word Wrap

Select this option to move the word being typed to the next line if the word has more characters than can fit on the current line.If you clear this option, the word being typed will be split between the current line and next line when no room is left on the current line.

Special Scroll Mode

Select this option to display any data received from the host on the subsequent page when the current page is filled.

If you clear this option, the data appears on the current page only. When the current page is filled, the cursor moves home on the same page, and the data received from the host overwrites the data currently on the screen.

Destructive Backspace

Select this option to delete the character at the cursor location when you press the backspace key.If you clear this option, pressing the backspace key moves the cursor to the left without deleting any characters.

Enable Alarm

Select this option to sound a beep when the cursor is in the specified column and line.

If you clear this option, no beep will sound, and the Column and Row list boxes are dimmed.

Persistent Insert Key

Select this option to keep the following keystrokes from disabling Insert mode: TAB, ENTER, UP ARROW, DOWN ARROW, RIGHT ARROW, LEFT ARROW, WORD LEFT, WORD RIGHT, END OF LINE, BACKSPACE, BACK TAB, TRANSMIT, and DELETE.

When this option is selected, only the Insert key will disable Insert mode.

Column

Using the arrow buttons, specify the column that the cursor must be in to sound an alarm.

This parameter works in conjunction with the Row parameter. The cursor must be in both the specified column and line in order to sound the alarm.

If Enable Alarm is not selected, this option is dimmed.

Row

Using the arrow buttons, specify the line that the cursor must be in to sound an alarm.This parameter works in conjunction with the Column parameter. The cursor must be in both the specified column and line in order to sound the alarm.If Enable Alarm is not selected, this option is dimmed.

To specify which characters to clear

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. From the Clear Key Interpretation list box, click one of the following options:

    To clear this

    Click this

    Only unprotected fields

    Unprotected Only

    All information on the screen, including delimiters

    Clear Entire Display

NOTE:This configuration option applies only to forms mode. When the session is in nonforms mode, clearing deletes all the data on the screen and moves the cursor home.

To specify the cursor action at the end of a page

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. From the Cursor At End Of Display list box, click one of the following:

    To

    Click

    Move the cursor home

    Advance To Start

    Leave the cursor in the last column of the last line

    Remain At Page End

To specify the format to use to report the cursor position

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. From the Specify Key list box, click one of the following:

    To move the cursor to

    Click

    The first column of the next line

    Col 1 Of Next Line

    The first column of the current line

    Col 1 Of Same Line

NOTE:ENTER is the PC keyboard equivalent to RETURN on a T27 terminal.

To specify the action of the Insert key

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To have the INSERT key

    Do this

    Toggle between overwrite mode and insert-in-line mode and insert a space at the cursor location

    Select Insert Key Inserts Space.

    Only toggle between overwrite and insert-in-line mode

    Even if you select this option, spaces are not inserted in right-justified fields.

To enable or disable lowercase characters

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Enable lowercase characters

    Select Lower Case Enable.

    Disable lowercase characters

    Clear Lower Case Enable.

NOTE:Some V Series hosts require all uppercase characters.

To show or hide the carriage return symbol (user-generated)

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Display a carriage return symbol when you press ENTER

    Select Display Return Key Symbol.

    Hide the carriage return symbol

    Clear Display Return Key Symbol.

To show or hide the tab symbol (user-generated)

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Display a tab symbol when you press TAB

    Select Display Tab Key Symbol.

    Hide the tab symbol

    Clear Display Tab Key Symbol.

To specify the action of the Specify Keystroke

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To have the Specify keystroke

    Do this

    Send the host the page number along with the column and line information

    Select Specify Key Sends Page #.

    Send only the column and line information

    Clear Specify Key Sends Page #.

NOTE:The option you should select varies, depending on which host application you're using.

To enable or disable word wrap

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Move the word being typed to the next line if the word has more characters than can fit on the current line

    Select Enable Word Wrap.

    Split the word being typed between the current line and the next line when no room is left on the current line

    This option is primarily used with LINC applications, which require delimiters at the beginning and end of every line. If you select this option, be sure to add the required delimiters.

To scroll the session window when T27 receives data from the host

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Display any data received from the host on the subsequent page when the current page is filled

    Select Special Scroll Mode.

    Display the host data on the current page only.

    When the current page is filled, the cursor moves home on the same page, and the data received from the host overwrites the data currently on the screen.

    Clear Special Scroll Mode.

To enable or disable a cursor location alarm

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Sound a beep when the cursor is in the specified column and line

    Select Enable Alarm and use the arrow buttons to specify the Column and Row where the cursor must be to sound the alarm.

    Disable the cursor location alarm (no beep will sound)

    Clear Enable Alarm.

NOTE:The settings you specify apply to each page and remain constant, no matter which host application you are accessing.

To specify how to disable Insert mode

  1. If a T27 session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Display.

  4. Click the Keyboard tab.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Prevent the following keystrokes from disabling Insert mode: TAB, ENTER, UP ARROW, DOWN ARROW, RIGHT ARROW, LEFT ARROW, WORD LEFT, WORD RIGHT, END OF LINE, BACKSPACE, BACK TAB, TRANSMIT, and DELETE.

    Select Persistent Insert Key.

    Allow these other keystrokes to disable Insert mode.

    Clear Persistent Insert Key.

NOTE:When this option is selected, only the Insert key will disable Insert mode.
