Settings - Colors Dialog Box

Using this dialog box, you can specify the colors to use for characters with particular attributes or select one of the predefined color schemes.

The characters retain their attributes, but will have the specified color. For example, characters with a normal video intensity and an underline will continue to have those attributes, but they will also have the specified color.

NOTE:If the session is configured to emulate a UTS 60 terminal, you must select Override Color FCCs. If you clear this option, any color settings specified here will be ignored.

UTS Color Schemes

UTS comes with six predefined color schemes that control the colors of the text and background in the session window:

Scheme

Click the name of the color scheme to use for this session.

The list box displays both local schemes and remote schemes. (The locations of local and remote schemes are defined on the Global Preferences dialog box).

If you have not created any color schemes, this list box is blank, and any changes you make to the session colors are saved in the session profile.

Save As

Click this button to display the Save Scheme dialog box.

Using this dialog box, you can save the specified colors as a scheme.

Delete

Click this button to delete the color scheme displayed in the Scheme list box.

Video Intensities

Click the type of characters whose colors you want to define.

When you click the text and then click a color on the palette, you define the color of the text. When you click the area to the right of the text and then click a color on the palette, you define the color of the background. The current colors appear in this figure.

Click the Color to Use for the Selected Characters or Background

Screen Item

Click the attributes whose colors you want to define.

For example, to define the colors of underlined characters, click Underline(Udr).

You can also click the desired attribute in the picture of the terminal screen.

Italics

Select this option to display any characters that have the blinking attribute in italics. (The characters appear in italics instead of blinking.)

You can select this option only if Enable blink is cleared.

If you clear this option, characters with blinking attributes do not appear in italics.

Remap All Attributes

Select this option to apply the specified colors to all the attributes for a given mode.

For example, if you select Normal as the Video Intensities, select Normal(Nrm) as the Screen Item, change the colors, and then select Remap All Attributes, all characters of normal video intensity sent from the host will appear in the specified colors.

If you clear this option, you can specify different colors for each attribute of the selected video intensity.

Enable Blink

Select this option to enable blinking when the host sends a character that has a blinking attribute.

If you clear this option, characters with blinking attributes do not blink.

Override Color FCCs

Select this option to ensure that the colors specified here will take effect.

If you clear this option, the session will display all colors as they are defined by the host.

Screen Alarm

Select this option to sound a beep whenever the cursor moves to the eighth position before the end of the row and when the cursor reaches any position on the last row.

If you clear this option, no cursor location beep will sound.

Repeat Alarm

Select this option to repeatedly sound the number of beeps specified by the Beeps On System option whenever the session has a host message to display.

If you clear this option, only one beep will sound, no matter what the entry in the Beeps On System option.

Ignore Host Color

Select this option to use the status line colors specified here rather than any colors specified by the host.

If you clear this option, the host-specified colors for the status line override those defined here.

To specify colors

  1. If a UTS session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Colors.

  4. From the Video Intensities list box, click the type of characters whose colors that you want to define.

  5. From the terminal screen or the Screen Item list box, click the attribute whose colors you want to define.

    On the terminal screen, click the text to define the foreground color, and the background to define the background color. In the Screen Item list box, the word Background appears next to the attribute to indicate that you are defining a background color.

  6. Click the color that you want to use for the selected item.

    The selected color appears on the terminal screen.

    The characters retain their attributes, but will have the specified colors. For example, underlined characters will continue to be underlined, but they will also have the specified color.

  7. To remap all characters with the selected video intensity to the specified colors, select Remap All Attributes.

    For example, if you click Normal as the Video Intensities, click Normal(Nrm) as the Screen Item, change the colors, and then select Remap All Attributes, all characters of normal video intensity will appear in the specified colors.

  8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 until you have specified all the colors to use for your UTS session.

    If the session is configured to emulate a UTS 60 terminal, select Override Color FCCs. If you clear this option, any color settings specified here will be ignored.To verify the terminal type, click Session Type from the Options menu and check the selection in the Display/Device Type list box.

  9. To save the specified colors as a scheme that can be loaded at any time or associated with a recorded host screen, click Save As and complete the Save Scheme dialog box.

To specify whether blinking characters appear in italics

  1. If a UTS session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Colors.

  4. Clear Enable Blink.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Display any characters that have the blinking attribute in italics (the characters appear in italics instead of blinking)

    Select Italics.

    Disable characters that have blinking attributes with their normal attributes (not in italics)

    Clear Italics.

To enable or disable blinking characters

  1. If a UTS session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Colors.

  4. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Enable blinking when the host sends a character that has a blinking attribute

    Select Enable Blink.

    Disable blinking (characters that have blinking attributes will not blink)

    Clear Enable Blink.

To specify the response to host-initiated status line color changes

  1. If a UTS session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Colors.

  4. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Use the status line colors specified on this dialog box rather than any colors specified by the host.

    Select Ignore Host Color.

    Enable host-specified colors for the status line to override those defined here

    Clear Ignore Host Color.

To enable or disable a cursor location alarm

  1. If a UTS session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Colors.

  4. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Sound a beep whenever the cursor moves to the eighth position before the end of the row and when the cursor reaches any position on the last row

    Select Screen Alarm.

    Disable the cursor location alarm (no beep will sound)

    Clear Screen Alarm.

To enable or disable a repeated host message alarm

  1. If a UTS session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Colors.

  4. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Repeatedly sound the number of beeps specified by the Beeps On System option whenever the session has a host. message to display

    Select Repeat Alarm.

    Sound only one beep whenever the session has a host message to display, no matter what the entry in the Beeps On System option

    Clear Repeat Alarm.

To create a color scheme

  1. If a UTS session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Colors.

  4. Specify the desired colors and attributes.

  5. Click Save As and complete the Save Scheme dialog box.

To apply a color scheme

  1. If a UTS session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Colors.

  4. From the Scheme list box, click the color scheme that you want to apply to the current session.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To

    Do this

    Apply the color scheme and close the Settings dialog box

    Click OK.

    Apply the color scheme but keep the Settings dialog box open

    Click Apply.

To delete a color scheme

  1. If a UTS session is not already open, open one.

  2. From the Options menu, click Settings.

  3. From the Categories list box, click Colors.

  4. From the Scheme list box, click the color scheme that you want to delete.

  5. Click Delete.
