5.3 Apple Time Machine Backups to NSS Volumes

The user/trustees should have read, write, create, erase, modify, and file scan permissions on NSS volumes to back up their data on the MAC clients.

Starting from Open Enterprise Server 2018 SP3, Mac clients auto-detect shares/volumes configured as ATM backup targets in the same subnet if Avahi service is up and running. If you have not installed Avahi Package Services during the OES installation, you can install it later by using Yast>Open Enterprise Server.

  1. Open the YaST Control Center. In the left panel under Groups section, click Software, then click Software Management to open the Software Search page.

  2. Search Avahi in the search bar.

  3. Select Avahi from the Package search result list, then click Accept.

  4. Restart CIFS server to view the CIFS server detected on the Mac Client.
