Developing Applications with Micro Focus TCS

Micro Focus OpenFusion CORBA consists of the following main components:

• OpenFusion TAO C++ ORB distribution
• OpenFusion JacORB Java ORB distribution
• OpenFusion OpenFusion CORBA Services

It is therefore possible to create CORBA applications which have the following flavours:

• Pure JAVA/CORBA applications using a combination of OpenFusion CORBA Services and OpenFusion JacORB Java ORB distribution.
• C++ applications using a combination of OpenFusion TAO C++ ORB distribution acting as a client to the OpenFusion CORBA Services built against JacORB.
• It is also possible to create pure C++ applications using OpenFusion TAO C++ ORB distribution without using any of the OpenFusion CORBA Services. By default the only C++ CORBA services that are distributed in the OpenFusion TAO distribution are the Naming and Event Services.

In order to ensure interoperability between TAO and JacORB it is recommended that OpenFusion CORBA Services are used. The development process using TAO, JacORB and the OpenFusion CORBA Services is illustrated in the following diagram.

OpenFusion TAO 2.1 Distribution

OpenFusion TAO 2.1 distribution was specifically designed to be used with the OpenFusion CORBA Services. It therefore has a number of specific characteristics:

1. The only native CORBA Services that are bundled with the distribution are the TAO COS Naming Service and the TAO COS Event Service.
2. The C++ client-side stub library for the OpenFusion CORBA Services is pre-built and bundled with the distribution.
3. A suite of C++ examples designed to illustrate the main features of the OpenFusion CORBA Services is included.
