Browsing the Books

The frame on the left shows the contents or index of the documentation, and this right-hand frame shows the text of a topic or chapter.

Above this right-hand frame, there is a breadcrumb trail, which shows where the current topic or chapter belongs in the documentation hierarchy. For example, the breadcrumb trail might show the book name and chapter name. There are arrows to move forward and backward through the chapters of the book. There is also a link to the Micro Focus Web site.

Click the Contents tab on the left to display the Table of Contents. In the contents:

Click to expand the contents
Click a topic, chapter or section name to display it
Click to collapse the contents

Click the Index tab on the left to display the index. In the index:

Click a letter at the top to go straight to that section
Click the text in the index to display the related help
To return to the top, press Ctrl Home, or click the letter at the top of a section

Click the Search tab on the left to display the search form. In the search form:

Enter the word, words or string you want to search for and click Search.
Click the topic title of the topic you want to view.

Customizing:

You can adjust the size of the left and right-hand frames by dragging the border between the frames
You can adjust the size of the top frame (to view a long breadcrumb trail) by dragging the border between the header fame and the text frame
You can choose the font to use by changing the font that your browser uses

Restrictions when Browsing

The contents frame does not work as expected if your browser is configured to disable JavaScript and cookies. See your browser's documentation for information on enabling JavaScript and cookies.

Searching

The search form:

Search:

Enter keywords or boolean expression for your search. The boolean expression allows "and", "or", "not" and parenthesis. For example:

shared and object
shared object

both find only those documents that contain both of the words "shared" and "object"

VSC2 or OSVS

finds those documents that contain either of the words "VSC2" or "OSVS"

Keyword highlighting:

If selected, keywords are emphasized in found documents.

If you change the setting you must click the Search button, and click the document link to view the change.

Navigation controls:

If selected, keywords are surrounded by controls for navigation to the next/previous keyword.

(Note that this facility doesn't work with Internet Explorer 5.x and later, and with Netscape 6.x.)

Tips:

Enter one or more keywords.
Searches are not case sensitive.
Use quotes to find an exact phrase, for example: "big cake".
You can enter multiple keywords, such as good food. Or you can enter a Boolean expression, using AND, OR and NOT.
Multiple keywords entered without a Boolean use the AND expression. Thus, entering good food is the same as entering good and food.
You can use an expression like pizza or pie to find pages containing either keyword.
You can also use parentheses in Boolean expressions. For example, you can enter (pizza and cheese) or pie.
You can use the asterisk (*) as a suffix wildcard character in keywords. For example, enter cook* to find pages with keywords such as cook or cookery or cooking.
Use NEAR operator to find keywords that appear near to each other. For example, type peanut near butter to find documents with words peanut and butter appearing near one another.
Beside using NEAR operator, you can specify how close keywords could be. For example, use "peanut w/5 butter" (with quotes) to find documents where words peanut and butter appear within a frame of 5 words, or "w/7 peanut butter cookie" to find peanut, butter and cookie within a 7 word frame. Note that common words are not counted as part of word frame.
If no matches are found, reword your query and try again.
