Navigate a Data File

There are a number of techniques that enable you to navigate around the data file.

  1. From the Data File Tools (Technology Preview) window, click File > Open, or click (Open).

    The Open dialog box appears.

  2. Navigate to the required data file, then click Open.

    The Open Data File dialog box appears.

  3. If you are applying a layout, click Browse to the right of the Structure File (optional) field, then use the Open dialog box to navigate to and select a structure (.dfs) file.
  4. Click Open File.

    The file is displayed on its own tab in the main window.

  5. You can navigate through the records using one of the following techniques:
    • To move through the records, in the Navigation group, click and ; alternatively, use the cursor keys.
    • To move forwards or back a page, click and .
      Note: Each page contains a maximum of 100 records.
    • To jump directly to a record, enter the record number in the Record Number field; alternatively, click the record in the Data File pane.
