Edit an Unformatted Record

An unformatted record is a record that belongs to a data file that does not have a structure file applied to it, and therefore is not using a layout. You can load and unload structure files whilst a data file is in the editor; see Load and Unload Structure Files.
  1. In the Micro Focus Data File Tools window, ensure you have an unformatted data file open. If you are in Shared mode, click The Swich to Exclusive Mode icon (Switch to Exclusive Mode).
  2. Select the required record to edit, then click The Edit Record icon (Edit Record).

The record text in the bottom pane becomes editable.

  3. Edit the text in the bottom pane, then click The Save Record icon (Save Record).
Tip: When editing records and fields, you can edit in Overwrite or Insert mode, which works much the same as it does on any conventional word processing package. Press Ins or Insert on your keyboard to toggle between the modes; the current mode (INS or OVR) is displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Click Yes to confirm.

    The record is updated.

  5. If you are using a temporary file for your edits (indicated by [TEMP] displayed in the file lock indicator), click Save all changes to file icon (Save all changes to file); otherwise, the changes are saved to the data file automatically.
