Beyond Green: The Future of the Iconic Mainframe Interface

Micro Focus commissioned research on perceptions of 590 senior IT leaders across eight regions on three key areas; user-satisfaction, skills, and the role of IT on the mainframe user interface.

Notable Headlines in the Research Include:

  • 98% believe that new capabilities would improve productivity
  • Only 35% are happy with their green screen applications
  • 34% believe green screen applications negatively affect staff retention
  • 60% believe change is too risky or expensive
  • 45% don’t think they have the required skills to make improvements

While "green screen" is iconic in the literal sense, the interface isn’t viewed in a positive sense by many of the people who use it. Logic dictates that users of large centralized systems probably see them as outdated, awkward, and years behind the tablets and smartphones being used in day-to-day life.
