Micro Focus colleagues in Bangalore, India, joined the 16th annual walkathon to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022 (IDPD) and to celebrate and empower cricketers around the world who have impaired vision.
Guruprasad S, Vice President, Engineering, led Micro Focus India’s support during the event, attended by more than 30 colleagues who joined over 10,000 people in the Let’s Walk to Support Blind Cricket walkathon. The initiative was organised by our charity partner the Samarthanam Trust to support the game of cricket for those who are visually impaired – while also promoting the T-20 World Cup for the Blind 2022 in India.
Several Micro Focus colleagues who took part in the 4.5km walkathon helped as guides, ensuring fellow walkers were taking the correct path. Colleagues also volunteered by distributing food to the thousands of supporters, a significant undertaking!
Guruprasad said: “‘Participating in the Samarthanam Walk-a-thon 2022 to support Blind Cricketers across the globe with the Theme, “Let’s Walk to Support Blind Cricket”, was such a humbling experience to see the active participation of people with disabilities. Walking along with persons with disability and doing some volunteering work distributing food to the entire gathering made us feel good. Knowing that this was for a very good cause, it was a very well spent half a day.”
As part of Micro Focus INSPIRE, our companywide Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program, all employees receive four days a year to volunteer to give back and make a difference.
