At Micro Focus, our aim is to make sustainable and responsible business part of the way we operate. From lowering our own energy consumption and waste materials, to helping our customers address their carbon footprint and adopt carbon friendly IT strategies – and encouraging our employees to live and work more sustainably.
With many organisations having already set their own targets to reduce their impact on the environment, by reducing energy usage and GHG emissions, many are looking to their suppliers to help them achieve their sustainability targets both directly through technology but also indirectly through their supply chain operations.
So with this in mind, we took the opportunity to show case how a number of Micro Focus’s solutions are helping customers today, and how they could in the future at Micro Focus’s flagship customer event UNIVERSE.

Oana Balasa, Global Product Manager, Decarbonisation, Atos explains how Carbon reduction improves efficiencies, reduces costs and drives innovation to achieve success, all making great commercial sense.
Lars Rossen, CTO, Micro Focus also talks about the action that Micro Focus is taking to reduce its GHG – and how we have consolidated data centres which saved energy, and close to $3m using own ITOM tools such as Micro Focus Configuration Management System, Micro Focus UCMDB Configuration Manager.
Peter Gadd, General Manager, Strategic Business Services at Micro Focus explains how consumers are taking action to reduce their ecological impact and putting pressure on retailers to use less packaging and introduce reusable containers. Using Micro Focus GPAS Sustainability Services (GPAS²), a consortium of leading consumer brands including Unilever, a multinational consumer goods company headquartered in the UK, are trialling a sustainable technology-led solution using the concept of “reuse and refill” to reduce plastic product packaging within supermarkets. This collaboration between Micro Focus, SourceLabels, Unilever, Beauty Kitchen, a manufacturer of sustainable and natural beauty products, and ASDA, a British supermarket chain, led to the sustainability initiative being trialled in a UK supermarket over the last few months. Following successful results, plans are now underway to expand the trial to a further three stores in the UK, with a view to introducing the innovative solution to every ASDA supermarket in the country. The initiative is Unilever’s biggest refill and reuse trial in Europe, and forms part of its commitment to halve its use of virgin plastic by 2025.
