Novell and McAfee, Inc. Announce Partnership to Deliver Stronger Security Policy Enforcement, Deeper Visibility into End-User Activity and Compliance Assurance for Enterprise Customers

Industry leading technology companies join to provide real-time, identity-aware enterprise security solution to joint customers

21 April 2009

At the RSA Conference 2009, Novell and McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE) today announced a partnership that will enhance McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator® (ePO™) with a holistic view of both network events and users. This combined approach will accelerate and pinpoint response to potential threats and provide administrators the much-needed ability to automatically enforce security and identity access-related policies, making it easy to prove compliance and ensure trusted access.

Current McAfee ePO software customers will be able to use Novell® Sentinel™ to create an "identity aware" environment using real-time monitoring and remediation of network events to better manage and mitigate business risk. Novell Sentinel is the industry's only solution that ties identities, systems and data together to deliver a centralized view of business operations through an automated process that can stop violations before they happen.

"With multiple users sharing computers, system administrators need to be able to enforce security policies on a per-user and not just a per-endpoint basis," said Jim Ebzery, senior vice president, identity and security management solutions at Novell. "This complexity necessitates user-specific security monitoring and enforcement to better secure the network and accelerate the response to any incidents."

Novell Sentinel will allow McAfee ePO software users to track network activity that is deemed non-compliant, in violation, or suspect, and to receive alerts through the ePO console or through reports provided by Novell Sentinel. Events and alerts can be collected from ISP devices and multiple network access control (NAC) products.

"Novell's unique combination of identity and access management and security monitoring capabilities will give McAfee ePO software users powerful visibility into user-specific events that are non-compliant and/or suspicious," said Joe Gottlieb, vice president of corporate strategy and technology alliances, McAfee. "This gives customers greater confidence that they will have auditable compliance and is a unique differentiation that will enhance the ePO solution."

The new offering will be delivered as a result of Novell joining McAfee's SIA technology partnering program, created to help accelerate the development of interoperable security products and to simplify the integration of these products within complex customer environments. As part of the program, Novell will implement data and policy integration features between Sentinel and the McAfee ePO console, McAfee's centralized security and compliance management system.
