Novell today announced that effective February 1, Gerard Van Kemmel - president, Novell® EMEA - assumes the role of chairman, Novell EMEA. Richard Seibt, former chief executive officer of SUSE® LINUX and president of Novell's SUSE LINUX business unit, will assume operating responsibility for Novell EMEA as president and as such will be responsible for all day-to-day operations.

Seibt brings with him considerable experience in the IT industry and is well known in the Linux world. "Richard Seibt's knowledge of the SUSE operations should enable integration to take place quickly and smoothly. This nomination shows our commitment to Novell's open source and Linux strategy," said Jack Messman, Novell chairman and CEO.

After leading Novell EMEA successfully for more than two years, Van Kemmel as chairman will help Novell set its strategy, particularly in developing its relationships with government institutions, large system integrators and strategic clients.
