Novell Named 'Best of Show' in Boston and Sydney

OpenSUSE, Open Enterprise Server and Mono honored at LinuxWorld events for innovation

6 April 2006

The Novell-sponsored openSUSE™ project was named “Best of Show” this week as best total industry solution at the LinuxWorld* Conference & Expo in Boston. This award follows on the heels of Novell® Open Enterprise Server being named “Best of Show: Total Industry Solution” at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo held in Sydney, Australia, last week. The LinuxWorld awards recognize product and service innovations, with judges representing a spectrum of technical professionals, business professionals and journalists from the open source industry.

“More than anything else, these awards are public affirmation that Novell is leveraging open source innovation to deliver high-quality products,” said Jeff Jaffe, executive vice president and chief technology officer for Novell. “Novell is listening to customers and the open source community to develop products with global appeal. This is the objective we're working toward with SUSE® Linux, Open Enterprise Server and our other software products.”

Novell innovations received several LinuxWorld honors. The Novell-sponsored Mono® project was named “Best Application Development Platform” at LinuxWorld Boston. Novell ZENworks® was a finalist for “Best Integration Solution” at LinuxWorld Sydney, and Boston finalists included Novell Identity Manager for “Best Security Solution” and Novell Integration Manager for “Best Integration Solution.”

The openSUSE project is a Novell-sponsored community initiative that promotes the use of Linux everywhere. SUSE Linux, Novell's community Linux* distribution, is created via the openSUSE project, and Novell this week announced the openSUSE build service to simplify the creation of Linux packages for SUSE Linux or any other Linux distribution.

Novell Open Enterprise Server is a secure and reliable workgroup platform and suite of services designed to support general information workers throughout an organization. It combines Novell NetWare® and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server to deliver proven file, print, directory, management, collaboration and application services.
