ALI Dev (part of ALI) is a set of IDE plug-ins that help developers to easily connect to ALM directly from their favorite IDEs. The plug-ins allow developers to automatically provision their workspaces, context-driven development and automatic traceability between work items and code changes.
Available plug-ins:
Context-driven development
Developers can work in the context of a work items (requirements, defects). After activating a work item, all the changes and visited resources are added to the context of the task. This helps not only to switch quickly between multiple tasks but also saves time when investigating or correcting older tasks.
Context-driven reporting
Developers can report progress, update status, and add a description of their work without leaving their IDEs so they can focus on the key goal—the code.
The entire application team gets better visibility about their project’s real-time status and health. The project manager (scrum master) gets accurate, real-time updates about the progress of the individual developer’s coding tasks, the progress of the whole project team, and the status of the iteration or the release. As a result, development managers and project managers gain transparency, can facilitate efficiency, reduce latency and overhead of inter-team communications, and ultimately increase application code quality. In addition, since all this development and change data is available to QA teams in real time, they also can better plan their testing, accelerate testing time, and identify defects earlier in the lifecycle when they are easier and less costly to fix.
Auto-provisioning of development environments
Developers can minimize time consuming process of creating project/workspaces in their IDEs. With ALI Dev plug-ins, they can start coding in three mouse clicks or less! Once developers identify the release they are working on, ALI will automatically setup the development environment for them (IDE, SCM, and build management tools):
Check-out source code (from the right codebase)
Populate IDE with the tasks defined in ALM
Configure build management integration in the IDE.
With auto-provisioning, ALI can cut setup time by up to 70 percent, allowing developers to focus on what really matters—adding functionality and increasing quality.
