Hong Kong Government Turns to Novell Nsure for Identity Management

Eighty-five percent of government departments choose Novell Nsure from among four leading vendors to power identity management solution.

11 January 2005

In an effort to provide better services to its 7 million citizens, the Hong Kong Government certified four vendors to provide identity management solutions to more than 100 of its departments. Novell today announced that 85 percent of these Government departments have selected Novell® Nsure® for their identity management solution.

Several identity management vendors were evaluated by Hong Kong's Central Cyber Government Office (CCGO), which is responsible for the planning and development of the IT infrastructure used by the Hong Kong Government to provide better services and support to its citizens and civil servants. With Hong Kong's large number of diverse government departments, the CCGO certified solutions from Novell, IBM, Sun and Computer Associates and allowed each department to evaluate and choose the one best suited to their needs.

Some of the key factors in the CCGO and individual agency's selection of Novell Nsure secure identity management solutions include Web-based single sign-on and the ability to provision user accounts across departments. Novell Nsure was selected because it was cost-effective and non-disruptive to the current systems and operations. Novell partners have also been successfully providing consulting and support services.

"With millions of citizens to serve, the Hong Kong Government had to find a secure solution that is scalable and works well with their existing infrastructure," said David Litwack, Novell senior vice president and general manager for Identity Services. "By drawing upon its long history of delivering identity management solutions for governments, Novell is helping the Hong Kong Government reduce complexity by integrating and managing identity information across different systems and enabling additional cost-saving solutions that leverage their identity information."
