U.S. GSA Certifies Novell for HSPD-12 Deployments

Novell delivers identity assurance solution to help federal agencies meet stringent privacy, security and identification requirements

23 October 2006

Novell today announced the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has certified Novell's identity assurance solution for Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 (HSPD-12) implementations. HSPD-12 is a government-wide standard that requires a new identification card process to enhance security, reduce identity fraud, and protect the personal privacy of those issued government identification. With this new GSA certification, agencies know they can deploy Novell's recently enhanced identity assurance solution with confidence that they are meeting HSPD-12 requirements.

“With all federal agencies required to have HSPD-12 procedures in place, it's critical to provide an integrated, yet flexible, solution that streamlines the processes involved in both the personal identification verification (PIV) card life cycle and traditional employee access management activities,” said Susan Heystee, president, Novell® Americas. “GSA's certification of Novell's identity assurance solution gives federal agencies, large and small, a flexible and extensible option to implement a cost-effective HSPD-12 PIV process in their environment today.”

Novell's identity assurance solution, originally available in July 2005, was recently enhanced through the addition of key identity management technologies that allow for easier enrollment, issuance, and maintenance of PIV cards, the core of HSPD-12 requirements. Novell's solution also provides seamless integration with single-sign on and access control policies to govern both physical and logical access to government facilities and resources, as well as the option to centrally monitor, in real time, PIV card activity.
