Novell Privileged User Manager 2.3 Enhances Security and Compliance for Cross-Platform Server Infrastructures

Latest version extends privileged user control, tracking and auditing capabilities to the Windows platform

13 December 2010

Novell today announced the availability of Novell Privileged User Manager 2.3, a cross-platform, super-user management solution that helps organizations meet security and compliance mandates by ensuring only authorized users can perform specific administrative tasks. Previously available for UNIX and Linux platforms, Novell Privileged User Manager 2.3 extends privileged user control, tracking and auditing to Windows platforms.

According to the 2010 Verizon Data Breach Report, internal sources are responsible for at least 48 percent of all security breaches. Employees are often granted higher IT privileges than needed to do their jobs. Novell Privileged User Manager 2.3 addresses this problem by giving administrators appropriate access without exposing the organization to security risks and regulatory penalties. Novell Privileged User Manager gives organizations the control to define what commands super-users can execute on target UNIX, Linux and Windows hosts, and while also records and audits all user activity based on predefined policies. This enables managers to quickly identify and remediate potential breaches.

"We have seen an increase in the number of security breaches over the past two years, which exposes a critical weakness in the way organizations are meeting security and compliance requirements to protect sensitive information," said Chase Jones, product marketing manager for Novell Privileged User Manager. "The latest version of Novell Privileged User Manager now extends its capabilities to Windows servers. Since the solution works across all platforms, organizations can rely on one product to secure their entire server infrastructure and help them meet compliance requirements such as HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley."

Novell Privileged User Manager integrates with Novell Identity Manager, Novell Sentinel and the Novell Access Governance Suite to support continuous compliance across UNIX, Linux and Windows environments.

Large, global customers in financial services, retail and government have already chosen Novell Privileged User Manager as their preferred superuser management solution. Customers cite the product's scalability, ease of deployment and administration, and ability to help them meet auditing and reporting requirements as the key factors for choosing the Novell solution over competitive offerings.
