Novell Positioned in Leaders Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management

Evaluation based on completeness of vision and ability to execute

21 June 2011

NetIQ Corporation today announced Novell is positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders Quadrant of the 2011 Magic Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) based on evaluation of Novell® Sentinel™ and Novell Sentinel Log Manager1.

The Gartner Security Information and Event Management Magic Quadrant report was created based on research conducted by analysts Mark Nicolett and Kelly M. Kavanagh. According to the report, "The SIEM market is defined by the customer's need to analyze security event data in real time for internal and external threat management, and to collect, store, analyze and report on log data for regulatory compliance and forensics."

"This year's Gartner SIEM analysis reflects the ongoing demands organizations have to meet real-time event monitoring, user activity monitoring, forensic analysis and compliance reporting," said Jay Roxe, Solution Marketing director, NetIQ. "We are very pleased that Novell is recognized for specific use cases that both our customers and the market continue to express. Novell Sentinel's unique approach to these market demands - and in particular, user-based activity monitoring and simplified reporting capabilities - ensure our customers are able to make smarter business decisions that improve their overall security posture and reduce costly compliance processes."

Novell Sentinel helps organizations proactively manage risk while simplifying the task of regulatory compliance. Novell Sentinel automates the process of monitoring for policy violations, identifying and responding to violations, and delivering compliance metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of critical IT controls.

Novell Sentinel Log Manager simplifies the fulfillment of audit requirements and improves security by streamlining the management of ever-increasing volumes of raw event data used for forensic investigations and compliance reporting.
