NetIQ Unveils NetIQ MobileAccess

Securely extends single touch access from mobile devices to corporate data and services.

12 March 2014

NetIQ today announced availability of NetIQ MobileAccess, a virtual appliance that enables convenient, secure access via a single touch from iOS or Android mobile devices—to business-critical corporate services and data that employees need to remain productive. By leveraging existing employee identities and extending pre-determined policies to support today's BYOD initiatives, NetIQ MobileAccess allows secure access from the personal mobile devices upon which today's workforce thrives.

IT organizations can struggle with the conflicting need to tightly control access to sensitive data while staying in step with business demands for mobility solutions as well as SaaS, Web and legacy applications underpinning business processes.

According to Forrester Research, "On average, 15% of employees are accessing sensitive data such as customer information, nonpublic financial data, intellectual property, and corporate strategy from devices other than work laptops and desktops."1 These devices are almost all personal and often lack basic security controls to protect data in the event the device is lost or stolen.

"The nature of the global 24-7 workday keeps employees dependent upon access to business-critical applications and data—from any kind of device," said Geoff Webb, senior director, Solution Strategy at NetIQ. "IT organizations are under the gun to present that corporate information in a manner that is accessible and secure—and they can now meet both these demands. There doesn't need to be a compromise."

NetIQ MobileAccess provides secure direct access to corporate services and information housed in today's rich Intranets - via single touch access from any iOS or Android mobile device. Access policies are based on employee and role, without intruding on the user or device. NetIQ MobileAccess:

  • Delivers granular access of corporate services and applications to mobile devices based upon an employee's identity.
  • Eliminates the need to navigate Intranet sites via a mobile browser, which can be difficult and time-consuming on phones and tablets.
  • Avoids the need to store corporate credentials locally on the device, which limits risk and corporate exposure when devices are lost or stolen.
  • Enables consistent secure access from mobile devices to both on-premise and cloud-based SaaS applications.

"Mobility and BYOD trends put extreme pressure on data security and managing access at the personal device level is very challenging," continued Webb. "The best way for IT to securely extend access to critical applications is through existing defined policies, with access controls applied consistently for applications—regardless of where they reside. Don't reinvent the wheel or take unnecessary risks with corporate data. It is far better to extend existing security controls in a way that makes it easy for the user—and NetIQ MobileAccess makes this possible."
