Novell Delivers New Security and Identity Solutions to Streamline Compliance Management

Significant new product releases help customers improve access control and more effectively manage enterprise security

11 March 2006

Novell today announced a number of new, innovative solutions designed to secure access to business applications and address expanding compliance requirements. The latest releases of Designer for Novell® Identity Manager, Novell SecureLogin and Novell Storage Manager (formerly File System Factory) will help organizations more effectively automate user provisioning, simplify single sign-on and manage shared network resources to simplify and streamline their open enterprise. As a result, customers can dramatically improve security and better automate business processes to deliver bottom-line savings.

“For financial institutions, security and compliance are top priorities, and we rely on Novell to help us maintain our competitive edge,” said John Jahne, vice president of network services at Webster Bank. “With security and identity solutions from Novell, we've been able to build a secure enterprise and simplify access management. We also improved user productivity by reducing the number of passwords our employees need by nearly 75 percent.”

Simplifying Identity, Access and Storage Management
Based on the Eclipse open source framework, Designer for Novell Identity Manager lets customers visually configure, customize and test identity management implementations, as well as deploy and document the solution. Available for free download, Designer for Novell Identity Manager is routinely updated on an agile development cycle to ensure customers always have access to the latest capabilities. The April milestone is designed to make it easier to manage information in multiple formats, as well as simplify reconciliation, policy simulation and debugging. It will also include version control capabilities to help further streamline and improve the collaboration process.

Novell also released significant updates to its enterprise single sign-on solution, Novell SecureLogin 6. The newest version simplifies access to corporate resources and eliminates the cost of password-related calls to the help desk by as much as 95 percent. With Novell SecureLogin 6, customers can extend simple single sign-on access to more than double the number of common applications and terminal emulators than in the previous version. In addition, new wizards help users quickly extend single sign-on capabilities to additional applications. Novell SecureLogin 6 also integrates seamlessly in mixed Novell eDirectoryTM, Microsoft* Active Directory*, Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) and LDAP environments.

Further extending Novell's leadership in delivering enterprise-wide solutions, Novell Storage Manager 2 now features support for multiple platforms including Windows*, Linux* and Novell Open Enterprise Server. It is the industry's only policy-driven solution for automating the storage management process. With new support for both Novell eDirectory and Active Directory, Novell Storage Manager 2 makes it easy for IT managers to provision storage to new employees, set quotas, monitor use and automatically archive storage when a user leaves an organization.

Enhancing Security and Compliance
Designer for Novell Identity Manager, Novell SecureLogin 6 and Novell Storage Manager 2 help organizations increase security and enhance corporate governance and regulatory compliance initiatives. From designing and documenting processes to enforcing the business policies that govern access and information management, security and identity solutions from Novell are making it easier for customers to design, deploy and document secure solutions that support compliance efforts.

“Organizations are looking for solutions to better secure and manage all their resources – whether that means using hardware effectively or helping employees become more efficient,” said Jeff Jaffe, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Novell. “As Novell creates innovative identity-based solutions, customers can secure their information and resources as well as streamline day-to-day business processes and improve productivity, resulting in both time and cost savings.”
