Novell has released the first Service Pack (SP1) for SUSE?? LINUX Enterprise Server 9, delivering significant technological advances in the areas of scalability, security and high performance computing. With this upgrade, Novell continues to set the standard in enterprise Linux technology by providing considerably improved scalability for very large machines. Co-operative development efforts with partners, including SGI, IBM and HP, have facilitated the delivery of increased computing performance that is necessary for customers engaged in computational intensive applications in areas of research, analysis and engineering.

SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 Service Pack 1 contains additional features that significantly increase the workload management capabilities in large image multi processing systems, including PAGG and CPUSET, facilitating better performance in larger high performance cluster environments. SP1 also includes the most current device drivers for the most recent generation of server hardware for all major hardware architectures (including x86, AMD64, EM64T, Intel?? Itanium?? 2 Processor Family, IBM POWER and IBM zSeries). The update also delivers mainframe capitalization with CPU hotplug support for IBM S/390 and zSeries machines, which now enables a physical CPU to be exchanged during runtime, keeping the system working even through server repairs.

This update contains all the latest security patches and bug fixes that have been released for the Linux 2.6 kernel and associated packages since last August, when the product was originally released. The fixes and patches have been rigorously tested and fully integrated into the SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server environment.

SP1 is available to all SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server customers who have valid Upgrade Protection from Novell. The files can be accessed from the SUSE LINUX maintenance portal (http://portal.suse.com)
