Novell GroupWise 8 to be Guest of Honor as GWAVACon Celebrates its 10th Event Worldwide

January 2009 conference will focus on GroupWise 8 and three newly released GWAVA products

18 November 2008

GWAVA, Novell’s largest collaboration partner for Novell GroupWise and Novell Teaming is celebrating the fifth consecutive GWAVACon in North America and its tenth GWAVACon Worldwide.

What better city to host the event than Las Vegas? Customers, prospects, partners and IT and business professionals come from around the globe to learn about solutions to real problems, network with peers, get certified on the latest technologies and of course, have a great time. Novell has expanded their presence this year at GWAVACon with more sessions on ZENWorks, Novell Teaming, Linux and of course the star of the show – GroupWise 8.

This year, GWAVACon will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Previous GWAVACons have been held in Munich, Germany; Sydney, Australia; Berlin, Germany; Dallas, Texas; San Diego, California; and in 2009 Las Vegas, Nevada. GWAVACon, which stands for GroupWise and Vendors Annual Conference, has grown each year as the GroupWise community has grown. Keynote speakers have included executives from Nokia and RIM, as well as John Dragoon, Chief Marketing Officer for Novell, Volker Smid, President of Novell EMEA, and in January of 2008 in San Diego, Ron Hovsepian, Novell CEO.

In addition to the GroupWise focus, additional tracks on Novell ZENworks and SUSE Linux have been extremely well received. This year GWAVACon is also expanding its offerings with sessions on Novell Teaming, Novell's next generation of collaboration that takes email to a new level.

As the largest GroupWise-focused event in the world, GWAVACon presents an important opportunity for Novell and its partners to communicate updates, strategy and releases to the GroupWise community. “Likewise, GWAVACon provides a platform to discuss and gain feedback on GWAVA’s strategic direction, new solutions and what global trends are on our radar,” says Charles Taite, GWAVA CTO. GWAVA recently announced the availability of three new products designed to assist with the archival and retention of messaging data (including SMS and PIN messaging on BlackBerry® Smartphones) and enhanced content filtering for GroupWise WebAccess.

“As Novell’s largest collaboration partner, we’re pleased to have Novell as a major sponsor and be able to showcase the newest release of GroupWise,” said Richard Bliss, GWAVA Vice President Marketing, Worldwide. “It’s going to be hard to top Ron Hovsepian’s keynote last year, but we have some excellent speakers and a few surprises,” says Bliss.

Additional vendors participating in GWAVACon in the past range from specialists in delivering solutions for the Novell community to large multinational firms like RIM and Nokia. These companies include Omni-TS which provides GroupWise integration to CRM and Sharepoint and Mobility Office, a Germany-based company that puts Open Office and the GroupWise client on flash drives for users traveling without a laptop.

"The partner community is a critical part of GroupWise success," said Richard Bliss. "Outside of Novell's premier event, BrainShare, in Salt Lake City every year, GWAVACon has become the showcase for Novell collaboration."

The conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 25 through 27, 2009.
