Novell Delivers the Economic Promise of Single Sign-On with SecureLogin 7

New version of single sign-on solution delivers broad application and platform interoperability to help customers and partners lower costs, reduce complexity and mitigate risk

8 September 2009

Novell today announced the availability of Novell SecureLogin 7, the latest release of its industry-leading enterprise single sign-on (SSO) solution. Novell® SecureLogin 7 drastically reduces the time required to SSO-enable the applications in an organization from weeks to days-allowing customers immediate advantages from improved productivity and operational efficiency.

One of the greatest challenges facing IT departments today is managing thousands of separate usernames and passwords for the applications and services used by an organization. This password proliferation causes significant losses in IT and end-user productivity, increased administration costs and security risks. In a recent Novell survey of security professionals worldwide, the majority of respondents said at least 30% of their IT help desk time is spent dealing with password-related issues.

Current SSO solutions in the market alleviate password proliferation by minimizing the number of times an individual needs to enter his or her credentials. However, for an organization to benefit from SSO, IT departments must undertake the complex and time-consuming integration of applications.

"Difficult-to-integrate applications add time to implementations, and products that require custom coding that's external to the ESSO product's native automation or scripting environment can add significant implementation time and costs. A few applications can't be integrated at all," said Gregg Kreizman, analyst, Gartner. "More Java applications are making their way into enterprises, and some vendors' products have difficulty recognizing sign-on and password change prompts when the interface provides nothing but graphical content for the ESSO product to analyze."

Novell SecureLogin 7 operates seamlessly with Windows*, Web, Java* and enterprise applications. Thanks to a new wizard which automatically integrates many applications, customers and partners can realize the benefits of single sign-on much faster than with other offerings. Furthermore, with 64-bit support for Microsoft* Vista* and Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Novell SecureLogin 7 delivers greater interoperability with existing platform and operating system investments.

"Integrating seamlessly with Windows, Web, Java and enterprise applications makes the latest version of this single sign-on solution a compelling product for our customers," said Forrest Evans, senior engineer, Novacoast, Inc. "As a Novell Platinum PartnerNet member, we look to Novell to provide highly interoperable solutions that help us deliver instant ROI and innovative infrastructure solutions to our customers."

Positioned as a leader in Gartner Inc.'s 2008 ESSO Magic Quadrant report, Novell SecureLogin 7 is the first release following the company's acquisition of a perpetual source code license from ActivIdentity Corporation in February 2009. The acquisition further positioned Novell SecureLogin as the market-leading solution to help customers improve productivity, reduce password-related costs, strengthen security and lay the foundation for regulatory compliance.

"It is common for an employee to have many usernames and passwords to gain access to the resources needed to do their job," says Jim Ebzery, senior vice president and general manager of Identity and Security, Novell. "With Novell SecureLogin 7, we have helped companies realize the productivity and cost benefits of SSO by making it easier to SSO-enable an organization's entire ecosystem of applications and services."

Novell SecureLogin is part of Novell Identity and Access Management solutions, the industry's leading solutions to automate business processes, mitigate security risks and lay the foundation for complying with internal security mandates and government regulations. Novell SecureLogin 7 is available now via direct sale or through a certified Novell PartnerNet® channel reseller. For more information, visit www.novell.com/securelogin.
