Novell Positioned as a Leader in the Magic Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management

Evaluation Based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute

20 May 2010

Novell today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders Quadrant of the 2010 Magic Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)*.

The Gartner Security Information and Event Management Magic Quadrant was created based on research conducted by analysts Mark Nicolett and Kelly M. Kavanagh. According to the report, "The SIEM market is defined by the customer's need to analyze security event data in real time for internal and external threat management, and to collect, store, analyze and report on log data for regulatory compliance and forensics."

According to Gartner, "The SIEM Leaders Quadrant is composed of vendors that provide products that are a good functional match to general market requirements, as well as vendors that have been the most successful in building an installed base and revenue stream within the SIEM market, and have a relatively high viability rating (due to SIEM revenue, or SIEM revenue in combination with revenue from other sources). Companies in this quadrant offer functionality that is a good match to current customer requirements, and they also show evidence of superior vision and execution for anticipated requirements. Leaders typically have relatively high market share and/or strong revenue growth, and demonstrate positive customer feedback for effective SIEM capabilities and related service and support. "

"Security continues to be a key pain point for today's enterprises," said Jim Ebzery, senior vice president and general manager for the Security, Management and Operating Platforms. "Automating the process of monitoring, identifying and responding to policy violations is critical in achieving enterprise-wide security, particularly for those with complex IT environments. We are honored to be recognized as a Leader in this year's Gartner Security Information and Event Management Magic Quadrant. We look forward to continuing to partner with our customers to help them achieve success in their security and compliance initiatives."
