Classifications

Classification plans are also known as Record Plans or File Plans.

A Classification plan is used for storing records according to subjects or by function. Classifications offer an alternative system to Thesaurus or free text titling.

The numeric and descriptive identifiers used in the Classifications system can be used in the numbering and titling of records entered into Content Manager.

Classifications assist users in the retrieval of records from the Content Manager dataset by providing a standard naming and coding system for the titling of records. A consistent titling scheme enables more accurate and rapid retrieval of records from the Content Manager dataset.

Hierarchical Classifications also assist in the retention and disposal of records. Unlike a Thesaurus, Retention Schedules can be applied directly to a Classification. This means that you can schedule archiving and disposal for types of records that have different policies.

This chapter documents the use and setup of Classifications in Content Manager.

For this functionality to be available, the feature Classifications must be selected in the System Options Features page.
