Date and time fields

For a date field, the Properties dialogue box will display the following options:

  • Alternative Caption - an alternative caption to display with this field.

    This will overwrite any captions set in the caption editor.

  • Optional Date and Time - select to make it optional for users to enter data in the field when creating new records.

    Not available for Date Registered and Date Created as these must contain data.

  • Mandatory Date, Optional Time - forces users to enter a date, but not a time in the field when creating new records.

    If a user leaves the field blank, Content Manager will display a message when they try to save the record.

  • Mandatory Date and Time - forces users to enter date and time when creating new records.

    If a user leaves part of the field blank, Content Manager will display a message when they try to save the record.

    On the Record Type Properties - Form page, mandatory fields appear with a red asterisk.

    If Indicate Mandatory Fields is selected on the page Properties, Content Manager will display a red asterisk (*) after the field captions.

  • Read Only Date and Time - deactivates the field. Users will not be able to use the field when creating new records, but can read the default data in it.

    On the Record Type Properties - Form page, the read-only fields appear in grey.

  • Always Display Full Width - select for the field to span both columns of a double-column New Record form.

    It will stretch the field to the width of the New Record form.

    This applies only when the width of the field is not restricted.

    NOTE: Use this option with the page property Display Field Captions above the Field for a New Record form.

  • Restrict Width to - select to make the Characters text box available to enter the maximum number of characters for the field on the New Record form
