Creating Use For terms

  1. From the Manage ribbon, select Thesaurus Terms.
  2. Select a term from the existing list of terms using the ARROW keys or the mouse, for example, Dogs.
  3. Right-click and select Related Thesaurus Terms.

    The Relating Terms To dialogue box appears.

    All available terms that can be related to the chosen term in some way are listed.

  4. Assume that the term Canine is to be a non-preferred term of Dogs, i.e. Dogs is used for Canine.

    To relate the two terms in this way, select the term that is to be related to the chosen term, for example, Canine.

  5. Select Use For, e.g. Dogs will be used for Canines.

    You have created a Use For term.

    The selected term will appear in the Related Terms section of the dialogue box with an icon indicating its type of relationship.

    You can delete a term relationship by selecting it in this list and clicking Delete.

    When a term is related to another term as a Use For term, the other term will be related as a Use term.
