Other fields
If you select other fields, the Properties dialogue box will display the following options:
- Alternative Caption - an alternative field label to display with this field.
This will overwrite any captions set in the caption editor.
See Caption Editor.
- Optional Field - bypasses the field when creating new records.
Select for the user not to have to enter data in this field.
Display warning if item is left blank - prompts users to review the suitability of the blank field before creating the record.
- Mandatory Field - forces users to complete the field when creating new records - if they leave it blank and try to save the new record, Content Manager will prompt them to fill in the mandatory field.
On the Record Type properties Form page, the mandatory fields appear with a red asterisk (*).
If the page properties have been set to Indicate mandatory Fields, a red asterisk (*) will appear after the field captions.
See Page.
- Read Only Field - select to not allow users to use the field when creating new records, but being able to read it.
On the Record Type properties Form page, the read-only fields appear in grey.
NOTE: It is possible to have a Mandatory field that is Read Only on a form. For a successful creation of a record with this record entry form setup, the Mandatory Read Only field must ALWAYS be populated with a value at creation, otherwise the end user will not be able to complete the record creation process as they cannot update the field.
- Always Display Full Width - sets the field to span both columns of a double column New Record form - it will stretch the field to the width of the New Record form.
This will apply only if the width of the field is not restricted.
NOTE: Use this option with the Record Type form page property Display Field Captions above the Field.
- Restrict Editable Width - select to make the Characters text box available for you to enter the maximum number of characters allowed for the field on the New Record form.
NOTE: Certain fields have their properties locked so that users cannot modify these preference options. These fields include the title fields.
- Placeholder Text - in this field type in text that will then be displayed within the field on the record entry form. This placeholder text can be used to provide instruction or guidance to the user on how the field should be used, or what kind of information should be added to the field.
