Dataset availability and messaging
The availability options enable the Content Manager administrator to lock the dataset in several ways and to set a dataset message that is displayed when users log in to the dataset.
See Dataset logon and broadcast messages.
- Expand Datasets
- Right-click the dataset and click Utilities - Availability.
The dataset you selected appears in the Dataset Name field in the Dataset Availability dialog box.
- To lock the dataset, select one of the Availability options:
- Allow new connections to this Dataset - default.
Select to enable all users to connect to the dataset.
- Prevent new connections to this Dataset - select to deny new user connections to the dataset.
This will not affect users who are already logged on to the dataset.
When a user attempts to open the dataset, the following or a similar message appears:
Content Manager failed to open the default dataset. The error was Database ** is not registered, or currently offline.
- Stop all Dataset activity - locks the dataset completely.
Prevents new user connections and activity from users already logged on. They will not be able to modify any data in the dataset.
Content Manager Enterprise Studio prompts the user with the following or a similar message:
Dataset ** is not registered, or currently offline.
When the dataset has been unlocked, users need to log out of Content Manager and back on again or log on to a different dataset and then back on to the required dataset.
- Allow new connections to this Dataset - default.
- Broadcast Notification/Status Message - enables you to set Content Manager to display a message when users log on to the dataset.
See Dataset logon and broadcast messages for further details and instructions.
- Click OK.
When completed, the maintenance process will display the message:
Availability <your dataset name> processing completed successfully.
