Digital Signature Standard (DSS)

This is a US standard. It specifies that SHA-1 is to be used for the hashing, and a specially designed asymmetric algorithm called Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) is to be used for the encryption. DSA can only be used for signing, not for other encryption.
