Upgrading from Server Express and Studio Enterprise Edition (UNIX)

You upgrade existing distributed applications created with Server Express to Visual COBOL for Eclipse.

Similarly, you upgrade mainframe applications created with Studio Enterprise Edition (UNIX) to Enterprise Developer.

The Enterprise Developer suite includes the following two independent products that are designed to be used together for maximizing the developers' productivity:

  • Micro Focus Enterprise Developer UNIX Components is the counterpart of Server Express and must be installed on the machine that has your application sources.
  • Enterprise Developer for Eclipse provides a rich and highly effective integrated development environment that can be connected to Micro Focus Enterprise Developer UNIX Components to enable you to edit, build and debug the applications' sources directly on the remote machine.
Note: The process of upgrading Server Express and Studio Enterprise Edition (UNIX) is very similar. Therefore, references to Visual COBOL for Eclipse and Visual COBOL Development Hub apply equally to Enterprise Developer for Eclipse and Enterprise Developer UNIX Components, respectively.

The following sections provide information on how to upgrade.
