Keyboard Navigation Overview

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

SQLWizard uses a graphical user interface oriented to mouse usage. However, you can navigate almost all of SQLWizard's windows, dialog boxes and menus using the keyboard.

Menu items can be accessed using the standard keystrokes for your operating environment. For example, in Windows you can hold down Alt while typing the underlined character on the menu you want to use. Many menu commands have keystroke shortcuts, such as Ctrl+O to open a file or Ctrl+S to save a file. These are displayed on the menus.

Navigating within a window or dialog box uses the standard keystrokes for your operating environment. In most cases, you can move from one item to the next on a window or dialog box by pressing Tab. (Use Shift+Tab to tab within a data entry field.)

You can select an item from a drop-down list by tabbing to the list and then pressing Down Arrow. Likewise, to select an item from a group of radio buttons, you can tab to one of the items in the group and press Down Arrow to select it. Use the space bar to press a command button or to change the setting of a checkbox after tabbing to it.

Note:

There are some situations where the customary keystrokes cannot be used, and you will need to use your mouse.
