To link to mainframe locations

You can link to mainframe locations using SourceConnect to define mainframe datasets so they appear in your project directory structure.

Prerequisites

Before linking to a folder or file on the mainframe, ensure that you have configured a node and catalog filter for the mainframe using Server Access Configuration. See Adding a Mainframe Node and Configure Mainframe Drives. To configure an MFA Server connection, see Defining a connection.

To link a folder

To link a mainframe folder and the files it contains to your project, perform the following steps:

  1. Right-click your project.
  2. Click New > Folder.
    Note: In the Application Explorer view, click New > Folder > Folder.

    This opens the New Folder dialog box.

  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Check Link to alternate location (Linked Folder).
  5. In the Choose file system list, select RSE.
  6. Click Browse.

    This opens the Browse for File dialog box.

    • If you have already specified an MFA Server connection in the Remote System view:
      1. In the Connection list, select your MFA Server connection name.

        This displays the filtered files system specified in the drive and catalog of the SourceConnect tab of the Mainframe Access Configuration tool.

      2. Expand the tree and click the required folder.
      3. Click OK.
    • If you need to create an MFA Server connection, click New, see Defining a connection for more information.
      1. In the Browse For File dialog box, expand the tree and click the required folder.
      2. Click OK.

    This populates the Folder name field with the mainframe folder and server details.

  7. In the Folder name field, type a valid folder name.
  8. Click Finish.

To link a file

To link a mainframe file to a folder in your project, perform the following steps:

  1. Right-click a folder in your project.
  2. Click New > File.
    Note: In the Application Explorer view, click New > File, and then click the required file type.

    This opens the New File dialog box.

  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Check Link to file in the file system.
  5. In the Choose file system list, select RSE.
  6. Click Browse.

    This opens the Browse for File dialog box.

    • If you have already specified an MFA Server connection in the Remote System view:
      1. In the Connection list, select your MFA Server connection name.

        This displays the filtered files system specified in the drive and catalog of the SourceConnect tab of the Mainframe Access Configuration tool.

      2. Expand the tree and click the required file.
      3. Click OK.
    • If you need to create a MFA Server connection, click New, see Defining a connection for more information.
      1. In the Browse For File dialog box, expand the tree and click the required folder.
      2. Click OK.

    This populates the File name field with the mainframe file and server details.

  7. In the File name field, type a valid file name and extension.
  8. Click Finish.
