Permitted Characters for Short Names

Short names must conform to mainframe requirements and are further restricted to permit reliable translation between ASCII and EBCDIC. The following characters are allowed for short names:

For security reasons, the Enterprise Server Administration user interface (MFDS) does not permit adding or editing usernames that include any of these characters: <+&%=>? This is because of their special meanings in HTML and HTTP. You can add and edit usernames with these characters using the esfadmin utility or by working directly with the ESM, for example, with an LDIF file for LDAP.

Long names and passwords can include spaces and most single-byte characters. The low-values or NUL character is not permitted, and some others may not be accepted by some user interfaces.
