To create a new segment layout file

  1. Create a debug information file for the program containing the data division you want to use for the new record layout file. See To create a debug information (.idy) file for layout file input for instructions.
  2. If you haven't compiled your DBD file since last making changes to it, compile it now.
  3. Start the Segment Layout Editor. See To start the Segment Layout Editor for instructions.
  4. To find out how to add segment layouts to the segment layout file, see the To define segment layouts.
  5. When you have finished, click File > Save to save the segment layout file.

The folder defaults to the folder containing the IMS database. The filename defaults to the same name as the IMS database name with a .slf extension.

  6. Click Save.
  7. To close the Segment Layout Editor, click File > Close.
Note: As long as you retain the default settings when you save the segment layout file, the IMS Database Editor loads the file automatically with the database.
