With the database server located on a separate machine, more memory is available on client machines for other applications. The XDB Server also allows the transparent integration of clients and servers running different operating systems. The server's security system allows for a separation of responsibilities and access privileges, if desired.
Distributed processing and server-to-server connectivity are supported. This allows the user of a single-workstation XDB Server, for example, to access data from other XDB Servers.
