The user Bob tries to login to the XDB Server develop, as shown in the following figure. Develop checks the server configuration settings (in SRVCONFG.XDB) and determines that it is using global security, and that the global security location is on the XDB Server XDBSERVE. The AuthID and password are sent to xdbserve for verification.

On XDBSERVE, the AuthID and password are verified against SYSXDB.SYSACFUSERS in the global security location. Verification is then returned from the XDB Server XDBSERVE and Bob is logged in to develop. Secondary IDs and privileges are then assigned.
