I need to verify that a particular IP address is correct when configuring TCP/IP connections.

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

Use the PING utility (provided by your TCP/IP vendor) to test each XDB Server and client IP address in your Internet environment. PING takes the IP address as input and tests individual server-server, server-client and client-server machine connections for packet loss.

Perform the following PING tests to verify that your TCP/IP network connections are functioning properly:

  1. PING your XDB Server machine from your XDB Server machine.

This verifies that your server-server machine TCP/IP connection is functioning properly, allowing local clients to both send and receive packets with your XDB Server.

  2. Because each remote client-server TCP/IP connection can employ a unique packet route in each direction across the internet, you should perform the following for each remote client that communicates with the XDB Server:
    • PING your XDB Server machine from your XDB Client machine.
    • PING your Client machine from your XDB Server machine.
