Managing Groups Overview

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

A group allows an XDB Server Administrator to control location, database, and table level privileges using a GroupID. An XDB Server Administrator can define groups and assign them to users using the Groups dialog box. Using the SQL GRANT command, database and table privileges are then assigned to the GroupID rather than to each individual user who needs access to those database objects. This method gives the same privilege set to each user in the group. If a user belongs to multiple groups, that user has the privileges of all those groups.

Once a group has been created, it appears in the Group Membership list on the Add/Modify User dialog box. This provides an alternate means of assigning a user to a group.

Note: In some cases it might be better to give users a common Secondary ID.
