A literal or arithmetic expression must correspond to an argument
preceded by a plus sign (+). You cannot copy back into a literal or arithmetic
expression.

Resolution:
Precede the argument with a + sign if the argument receives a
literal or arithmetic expression. Or, move the literal or arithmetic expression
to a data name and use the data name as the PERFORM parameter.
