Enterprise Server for .NET

Applications developed using Enterprise Developer require a COBOL run-time server to provide the necessary run-time system and support. Enterprise Server for .NET is your COBOL run-time server for CICS and JES COBOL applications developed for the Microsoft .NET runtime.

Individual applications are run in an Enterprise Server for .NET region, which in its most basic form region is a collection of information in a database. This information is used by a group of operating components to run one or more CICS or JES applications in a .NET environment. See Enterprise Server for .NET Internal Architecture for details.

While you can also run .NET COBOL applications using the Micro Focus Enterprise Server product, the advantage to using Enterprise Server for .NET is that you can customize your implementation to distribute computing power by allocating the work across multiple machines in what is called a scaled-out architecture. As such, Enterprise Server for .NET provides a highly flexible and scalable solution for migrating mainframe applications to the .NET platform.

The Enterprise Server for .NET user interface is provided as a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in. When you start the user interface, the MMC opens and loads the snap-in.

Note: The original name of the Enterprise Server for .NET product was Studio Enterprise Edition (SEE). As a consequence, many of the command-line executables, service names, and other provided files contain the letters SEE.
