Working with Micro Focus Terminal Emulators

Enterprise Server enables you to use special field types that only operate with supported Micro Focus Terminal Emulators. These special fields are only supported for 3270 sessions in Micro Focus Reflection Desktop and InfoConnect Desktop starting from version 17.0 Service Pack 1.
Note: These special field types can be disabled for non-Micro Focus Terminal Emulators by checking Show All Data on Legacy Products. See below for more information.

The two special field types can be enabled by checking the Required and the Sensitive fields on the Map Properties and Mapset Properties dialog boxes. These two check boxes can be found in the Mapatts group on the Common Attributes tab.

To configure either field type, right-click the field in the Micro Focus BMS Painter, this opens the Field Properties dialog box. Click the Micro Focus Enhanced tab and then check the options required:

Required Field
Check this to force the user to provide input to this required field. The field will be highlighted in red if the user fails to enter data into the field when the form is submitted.
Sensitive Field
You can use this to specify the data redaction applied to the displayed field data:
Show All Data
All data is displayed. This is the default setting.
Redact All Data
All data is substituted for asterisks.
Show Last 4 Characters
Only the last 4 characters are displayed and the rest of the data is substituted for asterisks.
Show First 6 Characters
Only the first 6 characters are displayed and the rest of the data is substituted for asterisks.
Show First 6 and Last 4 Characters
Only the first 6 and last 4 characters are displayed and the rest of the data between is substituted for asterisks.
Redact Options
If you specify a Sensitive Field option other than Show All Data then you can specify any of the following additional options:
Authenticate to View
When checked, the field will be displayed with a View (View button) button. Click the View button to open a Windows User Account Control dialog box. Type an admin user name and password and then click Yes to display the redacted data.
Redact While Typing
When checked, redaction occurs as the user types data into the field, replacing the characters for asterisks.
Show All Data on Legacy Products
When checked, non-Micro Focus Terminal Emulators that connect to Enterprise Server applications that use the new field types will behave as if the new field attributes were not set. That is, required fields will not force the user to enter data, and for sensitive fields the data will not be redacted.
Note: If this is not checked, then non-Micro Focus Terminal Emulators will error and you will not be able use the application being hosted in Enterprise Server.
