MAXEXP Function

Purpose

Returns the maximum value that EXPONENT(x) can assume. Returned value is a FIXED BINARY(31,0).

Syntax

MAXEXP(x)

Parameters

x
An expression that must have theFLOAT attribute.

Examples

Intel values:

maxexp(x) = 128 for x float bin(p), p <= 21
maxexp(x) = 1024 for x float bin(p), 21 < p <= 53
maxexp(x) = 16384 for x float bin(p), 53 < p
maxexp(x) = 128 for x float dec(p), p <= 6
maxexp(x) = 1024 for x float dec(p), 6 < p <= 16
maxexp(x) = 16384 for x float dec(p), 16 < p

AIX values:

maxexp(x) = 128 for x float bin(p), p <= 21
maxexp(x) = 1024 for x float bin(p), 21 < p <= 53
maxexp(x) = 1024 for x float bin(p), 53 < p
maxexp(x) = 128 for x float dec(p), p <= 6

Restrictions

Must be a FLOAT expression.
