Viewing Queries in SQL Edit Mode

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

You can examine the SQL statements generated by the Query Design window by switching to the SQL Edit window.

To switch to the SQL Edit window:

  1. Click the SQL command from the View menu.
    Note:

    SQL Edit button
Click the SQL Edit button on the toolbar

While in the SQL Edit view, you can make changes to your query that would be difficult to make through the prompted Query Design window. You can also edit other types of commands that are not currently supported by the Query Design window.

  2. Click the Design command from the View menu to return to the Query Design window.
    Note:

    Query Design button
Click the Query Design button for Query Design mode.

Note:

If you make changes to the SQL statement while in the SQL Edit window, you will not be able to go back to the Query Design window without discarding those changes. You can, however, first save the prompted query in Query Design mode, switch to SQL Edit mode, and save the modified SQL statement as an SQL script file.
