Prerequisites for Containerization

Provides details about prerequisite operating systems, third-party software, and extend installation files required to use the extend Containerization feature.

Windows

To use containerization on a Windows platform, the following must be installed on your system:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 or later with Hyper-V enabled. See Install Hyper-V on Windows 10 for details.
  • One of the following:
    • Docker Desktop for Windows, which provides a GUI and requires a license. To obtain this software, see Get Docker.
    • Docker standalone Windows binaries for the Docker Daemon and the Docker CLI. This option does not include a GUI, but also requires no license. For details, see the Setup topic under Windows Demonstration.

In addition, your system must have access to the extend 64-bit .msi setup file for extend version 10.5.0 or later.

Important: The extend .exe setup file does not allow for silent installation, which is required when building an image. Therefore, you must use the .msi file.

Linux

To use containerization on a Linux platform, the following must be installed on your Linux system:

  • Podman Linux container engine. For details, see podman.io.

In addition, your system must have access to the extend 64-bit shared Linux installable setup executable file, and appropriate license files. See Linux Demonstrations for a list of license files required for the extend containerization samples.

Note: The Ubuntu 20.04 Linux host operating system is required to run the extend containerization demonstration.
