Media Analysis

IDOL Media Server extracts information about the content of images and video, returning information that you can index into IDOL Server. This information enriches documents that represent media, which makes it easier to retrieve relevant media.

Media Server supports the standard image formats TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, PBM, PGM, PPM. It also supports PDF and other document formats, using IDOL KeyView.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

Media Server can detect and extract text from images and video, including text from:

• documents (computer generated, printed, or scanned)
• subtitled television footage, such as news channels with banners
• photographs of natural scenes, for example of street signs
• photographs of documents, for example, from a smartphone

Face Detection, Recognition, and Analysis

Media Server can detect human faces in images. It can compare detected faces against user-created databases to recognize known faces.

You can also perform demographics analysis on faces, to determine gender, age, race, and facial expression.

After running face detection, Media Server can determine the location and color of a person's clothing.

Barcode Recognition

Media Server can detect and decode most types of barcode.

Object Recognition

Media Server can detect and recognize objects, such as logos, product packaging, and adverts. It compares the results to user-supplied examples.

Color Analysis

Media Server can perform simple color analysis, which describes dominant colors present in an image by clustering similar colors.
