3.13.1 The Add Path Wizard

Before you can create an InfoConnect session, you must create at least one InfoConnect path. The path contains the information required to connect your session to the host. If your host supports ID pools, you can create an InfoConnect path that can be used to make more than one connection. Otherwise, each session requires a unique InfoConnect path.

Using the Add Path Wizard, you can create an InfoConnect path simply by responding to a series of questions. The information you are prompted for varies, depending on the transport you're using.

The Add Path Wizard can be displayed from the Windows Start menu, My Computer, or Windows Explorer, or from the Database Editor's Wizards menu.

The Add Path Wizard is also displayed for some connection types when you create a new InfoConnect session. From Accessory Manager, click Add on the Select InfoConnect Path dialog box (which appears when you open a session that is not configured to use a specific path), or configure the connection settings for a session.

NOTE:If you're using a transport that does not support this wizard, you must create the path manually.

To create a path using the Add Path Wizard

  1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Programs.

  2. In the Programs list, point to InfoConnect Enterprise Edition, and then click Add Path Wizard.

    The Add Path Wizard appears.

  3. Respond to the prompts on the screen.

The prompts vary, depending on the host and connection type you select.

    • If your host uses terminal IDs, you'll need to provide a terminal address and ID in the format required by your host or, if you use ID management through MSS, you'll need to provide the MSS server address and pool type to use. If you specify a Named pool, you'll also need to specify the pool name.

    • For all types, before you can complete the wizard, you'll need to provide a name for your new InfoConnect path.

    • There are additional options for each connection type. If you are unsure about some of the information required, contact your system administrator.
