8.0 Working with CIS Clients

Users can seamlessly access their files (on-premise or cloud) through the file explorer (Windows) or the Finder (Mac). In the background, the CIS client integrates with the explorer/finder to provide this functionality through the CIFS protocol. The benefits are:

  • Access to the files uploaded to the cloud (Windows and Mac workstations).

  • Displays the cloud overlay icon on the files uploaded to the cloud (Windows workstation).

To enjoy the above benefits,

  • Users need to install the CIS client on their workstation. If the client is not installed, then you will not be able to access the files uploaded to the cloud.

  • An administrator needs to enable the --block-unmanaged-cis-reads option on the OES server by using the novcifs utility.
