To start ESMAC:

  1. Access the Enterprise Server Administration screen for your installation.
  2. In the table of Enterprise Server instances, check that the server you want has started, and if not, start it.
  3. In the Status column of the Enterprise Server instance to monitor, click Details.

The Details screen for the server is displayed.

  4. On the Details screen, select the Server > Control tab, then click ES Monitor & Control.

The Enterprise Server Monitoring and Control (ESMAC) screen is displayed.

To view a system trace

  1. Click Trace in the Diagnostics group.
  2. Click A or B to select the dataset, or C to select the in-memory trace table.
  3. Specify the number of trace blocks that are to be aggregated into one trace index entry in Blocks in the Diagnostics group. This defaults to 10.
  4. Click Display.

A list of traces is displayed: this acts as an index to the detailed trace information. For each entry in the index list the following information is shown, from left to right:

    • The process IDs of all processes that have entries in the blocks represented by this trace index entry.
    • The task IDs of all tasks that have entries in the blocks represented by this trace index entry
    • The date and time stamp of the first entry in the trace.
  5. If you want to change the number of blocks to be included in the Details, specify a new number of blocks in the field immediately to the right of Details and below the heading Blocks (this defaults to the number you entered in the Diagnostics group).
  6. In the next field, below the heading Level, choose a level of tracing where the larger the number, the more detail will be shown. The options are:
0 Service start, module start, module end, service end. This is the default.
1 Enterprise server API entries and exits
    2 Subsystem trace entres
3 All entries where it is possible to provide some formatting of the data
    4 All trace entries

Each level includes all lower-level information.

  7. In the next group of fields, below the heading PIDs, if you don't want to see trace entries for all processes, check the check boxes next to the process IDs that you do want to see details for.
  8. In the next group of fields, below the heading Task IDs, if you don't want to see trace entries for all tasks, check the check boxes next to the task IDs that you do want to see details for.
  9. Click Details for the trace you want to display.

The trace is formatted and displayed. To return to ESMAC, click Back in your browser.
